Today, in the presence of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Mexico City Governess Claudia Sheinbaum, Grupo Bimbo – the leading breading company in the world – inaugurated the Metropolitan Distribution Center (CEDIS) based on the Azcapotzalco municipality in Mexico City. It is the largest and most modern in the breading industry in the world and will help the company improve its productivity and increase its logistic capacity and distribution efficiency.
Daniel Servitje, President and CEO of Grupo Bimbo, welcomed the authorities, collaborators and neighbors, along with Miguel Angel Espinoza, CEO of Bimbo Mexico, complying with all preventive and safety measures.
"Grupo Bimbo will always be with Mexico, serving its consumers with quality, sponsoring field workers, promoting sports and supporting owners of small stores. Grupo Bimbo will always be with Mexico, with investments, with ethics, with jobs and sustainability. We are a company committed to our dear country and to nourishing a better world”, assured Daniel Servitje, President and CEO of Grupo Bimbo.
The Governess of Mexico City, on her part, mentioned: “I would like to congratulate Grupo Bimbo for this investment it has made in the city. We greatly appreciate that you keep betting on Mexico City. You had the chance to take this investment somewhere else, but we coordinated with the municipality so that it could stay here”.
Meanwhile, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador mentioned:
“We have to work together in the public sector, the private sector and the social sector; these three motors are the ones who let there be economic growth so that there are also jobs, wellbeing, peace and tranquility in our country. We couldn’t just bet on public investment to impulse the country’s development, and we couldn’t do anything without the workers. So what is being done is a joint effort, which inspires the government I represent”.
“It is a source of pride that this Mexican company is present in over 30 countries around the world”, he added, “it is a Mexican company of global transcendence. Bimbo is a source of pride for Mexico”.
With an investment of 2,720 million pesos, the CEDIS has a total surface of avoer 89 thousand square meters (m2), of which more than a third (38,799 m2) has been destined for operational areas and over 29,000 m2 for green areas.
During construction, which lasted 18 months, over 1,700 jobs were created, and it currently employs 500 people.
The Distribution Center is a point of reference in sustainability and use of clean energies. It has the largest solar ceiling in Mexico, with a capacity of 2.2 MW, with which 100% of the energy used in the site is provided. With this, 1,200 tons of CO2 are saved from emission.
This system, the only one of its kind in the country, was possible thanks to the collaboration of institutions like the CRE, CFE and CENACE, who joined in the project’s execution.
The center also has a rainwater collection system with a capacity of 800m3, a residual water treatment plant with reuse quality, and electric vehicles in the maneuvers yard. Because of these practices and the building’s characteristics, the CEDIS got a Platinum LEED Certification, the highest standard in sustainability and energy efficiency in the world, making it an example to follow.
The Metropolitan Cedis improves the neighbors’ quality of life through green areas, better lighting of the area, camera installation and rehabilitation of public spaces as part of Grupo Bimbo’s Good Neighbor program: Acoustic Wall for Villas Azcapotzalco, installations in Mariano Matamoros elementary school, Sports Module and material donation to the Dental Clinic, both in the Nueva San Rafael neighborhood.
This CEDIS will tend to distributions channels like details, self-service, convenience stores and special channels, in Mexico City’s Metropolitan Area and the Center and South of the country, like the states of Morelos and Guerrero.
