• The company has started construction work for the new center.
• The pandemic and the economic deceleration have not been obstacles for Grupo Bimbo to invest in Chile.
• The new Distribution Center (CEDIS) is a point of reference in sustainability and clean energy use. It generates 100% of the electric energy it consumes in a renewable manner.
With the presence of the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Lucas Palacios, IDEAL S.A. company that belongs to the largest breading group in the world, Grupo Bimbo, celebrated its first stone ceremony for the new Distribution Center (CEDIS), which will supply 24 sales centers throughout Chile and will be operational this October.
The investment calendar in Chile for the next two years exceeds $55 million dollars and will generate over 300 jobs in the construction and operation of the CEDIS and the Ñuble Plant (2022).
With a $2.4 million dollar investment, the Distribution Center will have a total surface of approximately 25 thousand square meters, of which 12 thousand square meters will accommodate two sales centers, one storage nave for more than 7,000 pallet positions, offices, a maneuvering yard and parking lot. This operational surface is expandable by 15% in the next 5 years.
Its operational design is planned to manage an average of approximately 2.8 million products each day. It will have an automatic loading and unloading system which will allow to quadruple the current movement of trucks with merchandise.
“The construction of the CEDIS is proof that IDEAL wants to contribute to the growth, reactivation and continuity of the country’s logistics chain. We are convinced that Chile is the right country to keep supporting our consumers, grocers, small businesses, providing for a healthy lifestyle, by providing investment, ethics, innovation and sustainability. We will keep making every effort so that no bread is missing from Chilean tables”, said Enrique Martinez Gimez, IDEAL’s General Manager.
“This company is making a very important investment in Chile, which will help the strong recovery of the investment this year, because it’s not only important to recover our economy and the jobs that we lost this year because of the pandemic, but also to be able to project an economy that will have strong growth for the future; therefore the economic growth cannot consist in domestic spending only, but it must also include investment”, added Lucas Palacios, Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism.
The new Distribution Center adopts Grupo Bimbo’s best practices and the highest standards in sustainability. It has 800 solar panels which will inject 300 kw every hour, which will provide 100% of the electric energy used by the site. The operation of this CEDIS considers the reduction of energy usage, water and CO2 emissions, through the use of the Giro Limpio (Clean Trade) certified fleets, the dry cleaning of vehicles, the use of LED lighting, the use of a gas recharge system for 50 hybrid vehicles, among other measures.
The project that will replace the current infrastructure located in the IDEAL Plant will improve productivity and increase logistic capacity and efficiency in the company’s distribution.
