The covid-19 pandemic has marked a before and an after when it comes to ways of working. Our Corporate President and General Director, Daniel Servitje, advises that although there may be a revisit to thinking about ways of working, it will be important for leaders not to lose contact with teams or fail to motivate and guide them.
As part of a virtual conversation the IESE (Business School University of Navarra) organized, and that University General Director Franz Heukamp attended, Daniel Servitje opened the discussion by speaking of the current global context.
At this point we’ve had more time to reflect. “This opens up new ways of thinking and working. We’re experimenting, changing habits and forming others. I keep asking myself “What are the new ways of working that we’re going to take up in our businesses from here on out?”
It means guaranteeing leaders still inspire, guide, blaze trails and remain close to their teams.
“Let them listen and, as a function of needs and learnings, they can also trace out new paths.”
LEADERSHIP IS SETTING AN EXAMPLE; A CONSCIENCES ACTIVATOR
“At Grupo Bimbo, for longer than anyone can remember, one maxim has been that the business will be whatever its people may be—and that is what their leaders may happen to be. Leaders are those who move the business. A leader who inspires it to be congruent between what is said and done ends up motivating teams and collaborators.”
The General Director further explained that today, we’re so diverse and global that we cannot forget the business will be fundamentally the relationship between teams and their leaders.
He added that leaders are the ones who head up teams, regardless of if they’re big or small, and that a key element to any leader is some humility, a capacity to connect and not lose his or her way.
