Grupo Bimbo reaffirms its environmental commitment with Jalisco

Ecological Sales Center that will allow the reduction of approximately 400 tons of CO2 emissions, as well as over 3.2 million liters of water per year.

Today, Grupo Bimbo inaugurated the Ecological Sales Center in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco. The second to start operations in the Mexican Republic and through which the Company reinforces its commitment to the environment and promotes the use of renewable energies.

The inauguration event counted with the participation of personalities such as Aristóteles Sandoval, Governor of the State of Jalisco; María Magdalena Ruiz, Secretary of the Environment and Territorial Development of the State of Jalisco; Jaime Reyes Robles, Secretary of Innovation, Science and Technology of the State of Jalisco; Congress members Consuelo Robles Sierra and Enrique Dau. Also attending were Grupo Bimbo Senior Management members such as Javier González Franco, Grupo Bimbo Senior Executive Vice-President; Miguel Ángel Espinoza, President of Bimbo S.A.; Fortino Reyes, Services Vice-President; Leonel Carrasco, Corporate Vehicles Vice-President; and Jesús María Aguilar, Moldex General Manager, among others.

Following the leadership in environmental matters of Daniel Servitje, Grupo Bimbo Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO, the company, in view of COP21 negotiations to be held next December in Paris, recently summoned entrepreneurial leaders, authorities and civil society to become a part and set ambitious goals and take actions that will allow minimizing of the impact caused by climate change.

That is why Grupo Bimbo enthusiastically joins the environmental initiatives that the State of Jalisco has undertaken through this Ecological Sales Center and its operations’ sustainable practices in the entity.

The Ecological Sales Center embodies the best practices on water saving, waste management, energy savings and the use of renewable energy. In addition, it will operate over 100 electric vehicles that will function with clean energy supplied by the Piedra Larga wind farm, the biggest in the world especially built to serve a company in the food industry. This fleet of vehicles will distribute the Company’s products in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara in a sustainable way, allowing an annual reduction of approximately 400 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equal to the emissions generated by lighting more than 14 thousand light bulbs.

Additionally, rain water collection and use systems that this Center will have, will allow the company to save up to 3.2 million liters of the vital fluid, annually.

Javier González Franco, Grupo Bimbo Senior Executive Vice-President highlighted that this Center is part of the actions that the Company is implementing in order to fulfill its goal of reducing its operations’ environmental footprint and added: “In sum, with this Ecological Sales Center, we take a firm step towards a comprehensive environmental management combining the use of renewable energies and sustainable performance.”

For over two decades, as part of its social responsibility actions and in favor of the environment the baking enterprise has implemented a series of initiatives that meet the industry’s particular challenges in matters of efficient use of energy and water, waste management and sustainable procurement. All these under the Planet Pillar, the environmental arm of its social responsibility program “Sembrando Juntos” (Sowing Together). With the inauguration of this Ecological Sales Center, Grupo Bimbo reinforces its commitment with the environmental performance of its operations.
