Three years before the scheduled date, Barcel announced today that it has been able to reduce in 30% the saturated fats content in all its products, including leading brands such as Takis, Chip’s and Hot Nuts.

Barcel started this task in 2004, when it decided to undertake a process to reformulate all its product lines in order to offer alternatives with a better nutritional profile while preserving the distinctive taste of its brands, which has allowed them to establish a strong position in the preference of consumers in Mexico and the United States.

As of 2008, Barcel’s intense activity in the fields of product innovation and development aligned with the Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health of the World Health Organization. The Strategy is a sum of recommendations for the food industry in order to benefit consumers’ health.

“Today, three years before the goals set by the Company for 2015, Barcel has been able to reduce the saturated fats content of all its products in 30%, including the most preferred brands among our consumers such as Takis, Chip’s and Hot Nuts”.

“Besides saturated fats, we have been able to also reduce total fats and sodium content and completely eliminate trans-fats from all our Barcel product lines; with this we make products in favor of the health and well being of our consumers without losing taste”, stated Gabino Gómez, President of the Barcel Organization.

This result is directly linked with the arduous effort made by the Barcel Innovation and Nutrition Institute which has intensified its work in recent years in order to maintain the high quality and nutrition standards that characterize the products.

This measure is one of the actions and initiatives pertaining to health and nutrition that Barcel has implemented during the last eight years, which have translated into constant improvement and diversification of its products, such as the recent launching of Madre Tierra, a new line of healthy snacks that includes Mix de Frutas Deshidratadas (dehydrated fruit mix), Mix de Semillas sabor Chocolate (chocolate flavored seeds mix) and Mix de Semillas con Higo (seeds mix with figs).

In line with its commitment to health and well-being, Barcel recently announced that through product innovation and reformulation it will continue offering healthy alternatives to specifically satisfy the preferences and needs of today.
