Within the setting of the World Environment Day and in the context of the United Nations Program for Latin America and the Caribbean (‘Programa de Naciones Unidas para América Latina y el Caribe (PNUMA); this year the distinguishing central theme of the World Environment Day being “Get Rid of the Habit! Towards and economy low in carbon”, where it is acknowledged that the theme of climate change is becoming the issue that is defining our era, where countries, enterprises and communities are asked to concentrate on looking for a way to reduce green-house effect gas emissions.
Grupo Bimbo reasserts its commitment with caring for the environment by means of its program “Committed with the Environment”, which is divided in five important lines of action such as: Reduction of gas emissions, Saving energy / power, Saving water, Actions in matters of overall waste management and social – entrepreneurial responsibility in environmental matters.
Regarding matters of the reduction of emissions, the changes at Grupo Bimbo have been latent; hybrid units have been acquired as well as those using electric combustion cells to effectively reduce the emission of contaminating substances. During the last 3 years, by means of these actions it has been possible to reduce 4.6 million liters of fuel for our transportation services, which is equivalent to the annual average consumption of 47,000 compact automobiles.
