Grupo Bimbo, Grupo Bimbo, baking and food industry leader in Mexico and the world, with more than one thousand brands worldwide, announces that it will work with its egg suppliers in order to promote the welfare of the hens that are part of its supply chain.
Paying heed to people’s concern about animal welfare and in the framework of our corporate social responsibility policy, for which we are obliged to seek the best practices, we assumed the following commitment to:
invite and work jointly with our suppliers to gradually move to have an egg supply of 100% cage-free birds by 2025.
This transition will happen maintaining our quality standards and inn compliance with the requirements of the markets where we operate, always taking supply availability into account, as well as suppliers’ specific characteristics in each country.
We are certain that with these actions we will contribute to expedite a process change towards a practice that will become the rule in the future, since it positively contributes to animal welfare and producers’ prosperity.
In 2016, a work timetable showing the stages, deadlines and locations to achieve a full transition to an egg supply from 100% free-cage hens will be presented. In this way, Grupo Bimbo proves to be the first Mexican food company to incorporate these production practices that improve animal welfare.
This initiative of Grupo Bimbo is part of many other relevant corporate social and sustainability responsibilities on which continuous work is done regarding procurement matters such as the recent Global Policy on Palm Oil Procurement and the commitment to cero deforestation in the supply chain by the year 2030.
